Removing the old headlights and installing new HIDs is not a difficult task; however, quite a few parts have to come off, so it can be intense labor. If you prefer to relax or take the safer route, you can take your car to the auto shop. Materials Needed 10 mm socket with wrench Phillips screwdriver Step 1 — Disconnect the battery and remove the bulbs Pop the hood up to disconnect the negative black terminal from the battery. Then, locate the wiring harnesses to remove the bulbs. Behind each headlight is a stock bulb that is plugged into a wiring harness. In the headlight assembly, unclip and pull the harness out of the hub. Once it is removed, rotate the stock light bulb counterclockwise until you hear a click, and then gently pull it out from the socket. Repeat this process to the other headlight assembly.

Issues generally arise from bulbs that were originally DRL daytime running lights , vehicles with light out warning indicators, older vehicles with oxidized wires, and some newer high end vehicles with unexplainable issues. What this means is the power and ground wires of your vehicle’s stock harness are reversed. To reverse polarity on HID headlights, you must rotate the 2-pin oval connector on the HID ballast by degrees in order to reverse the orientation of the plug. To reverse polarity on LED headlights, you simply rotate the connector which plugs to your vehicle’s factory harness by degrees.

The image outlines the connection for one bulb and one ballast. Repeat the exact steps for the second headlight. Connect the Ballast to the Ignitor does not apply to 35W Canbus kits. Connect the oval 2-prong plug from the ballast to the Bi-Xenon Relay Harness. Connect the Negative – Terminal to a proper ground. This can connect to your battery or anywhere on your vehicle frame.
Repeat for the other side of the relay. Make sure your vehicle is turned off when doing this. The last connection will plug directly to your vehicle. Only one side of your vehicle will need to connect to the Bi-Xenon Relay Harness. The opposite side will remain unplugged which is normal. You may want to weatherproof the empty connector to avoid moisture from damaging it. All vehicle with hard plastic headlight dust covers will need to drill a 1 inch hole to close and feed the wires through.
A rubber grommet is included with all our bulbs to seal back the hole from moisture and water.
Open the back cap of the headlight assembly and take out the stock bulb. Insert the LED bulb into the headlight assembly. Plug the LED bulb to power socket. Installation is as simple as swapping out the bulbs. Never touch the bulb with your fingers because it might blemish it. Wearing gloves is ideal when dealing with the bulb.

The installation was pretty straight forward. I bought the kit from here. Yes, it is true that this is not a full HID conversion with projector housing and angel eye but it is pretty darn good for not having to modify the headlight housing. In the photo above you can see a toggle switch complete with red LED at the end that I added to my PC in order to turn on and off the headlight circuit.
On my PC , the headlight turns on as soon as the key is turned. It turns off when the starter is engaged and turns back on once the starter is released. Putting this switch in allows me to turn off the headlight circuit prior to turning on the key and only turn the headlight on after the bike is running. This would also be beneficial for a situation where the charging system goes out on the bike and you need to make a few extra miles to get home.

The only things you need to do are read the instructions carefully and install the system. The complete street-legal, DOT-approved kit is a plug-and-play installation and includes all the necessary attaching hardware. The new Vette-HID headlamps provide a brilliant light at 4, degrees K, which is color temperature measured on the Kelvin scale. Daylight measures at 5, degrees Kelvin.
The Vette-HIDs provide light as close to daylight as possible with street-legal components. The white light provided at night is immediately noticeable on the highway. The problem early on with HID installs was improperly secured lamps causing bouncing light beams and no way to properly aim the headlamps. But Vette-HID engineered the fit of the headlamps with proper adjusting capabilities that look and fit like an OE installation. This is not a cobbled together kit that you can’t depend on.
How To Wire Fog And Driving Lights
I’m running one as a low beam, one as a high beam. The high beam projector I removed the shield inside the light. They actually kick out a lot of light for a smallish housing with a single 55w H3. One on is plenty enough for me to see what’s ahead of me at 55mph The one I have setup as a high beam, without the shield, casts out a little further but there’s not a tremendous difference between them in light output except for oncoming traffic. Looking at the lights you can definitely tell from yards out which one is high and which one is low.
Step 3 – Install new HID headlight. Installation is pretty much the reverse of what you just did to remove the headlight. Begin by attaching the mounting bracket to the new headlight via the three clips. Next, insert headlight and mounting back into housing area, and push until snug. Reconnect connectors.
Plus it disperses the light into a wider pattern than the stock headlights. This overall tends to be less lighting than stock. I later changed over from the 55W Kit to the 35 watt kit. They are smaller and should not melt your lenses. I do not drive much at night and I did put in a could of trips that I used the headlights for several hours and one lens has a little warp in it. I am very happy with it. It really lights up reflective objects better than ever.

The best way to describe an HID headlight is to compare it to a more conventional halogen headlight. A halogen bulb consists of a wire filament surrounded by an inert gas. When electrical current is applied to the filament, it glows brightly to produce light. Contrast that with an HID bulb which has no filament, but instead consists of xenon gas, mercury, and metal halide salts.
The xenon gas is ignited by an arc of high-voltage current and glows brightly. Also, the high voltage is supplied by a ballast, so in these respects it is like a fluorescent light.
Do not place the ballast near the engine or fan which will give off a lot of heat. If the ballast temperature goes up to degrees, the over heat protection will automatically shut off the power. A poor ground will cause the HID light to flicker. Easy installation in general goes like done as described below.
